In this 90-minute introductory workshop, we’ll explore the methods and practice of contemplative prayer. We will look at the foundational steps as taught by contemplative prayer teachers Father Thomas Keating and David Frenette. We will explore different ways we can incorporate contemplation and centering prayer in our daily life, and we’ll discuss a range of spiritual exercises one can use with centering prayer. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to practice contemplative prayer on their own, and they will feel confident in establishing a personal, daily practice. Resources for further study will also be discussed.

Each class is $20/person. You can register for one or multiple centering prayer ongoing workshop sessions, as you wish.

Longing for Darkness: New Moon for the Black Madonna with Walter

Our one evening workshop will introduce the history of the Black Madonna and explore her ancient roots. We’ll discuss how she may have evolved from old pagan traditions to become the beloved figured of compassion and hope she holds today. We’ll survey some of the most beloved icons in the world, and we’ll learn ways in which we can incorporate her message into our life.

As part of a New Moon workshop, we’ll devote part of the evening to a short ritual where we’ll petition the Black Madonna to intercede in our behalf in times of need. We’ll discuss how we can invoke her aid, and how to honor her legacy of love and compassion for the earth.

For centuries, the tarot has intrigued and fascinated people with its imagery and visual cues to another world. Some claim the deck holds the secret mystical mysteries of the Egyptians; other marvel at its insight into the human psyche. Many praise it for its ability to peer into the future. But what exactly is the tarot? Where does it come from? How can we use it in our daily life?

This five week introductory class to the Raider-Waite-Smith tarot will help students become familiar with this ancient tool for divination; the class will aid students apply their learning to working with a deck of tarot to perform personal readings. Students will work with the Raider-Waite-Smith tarot deck and learn about the symbols and signs hidden in the cards. We’ll begin with the Minor Arcana, tarot’s often skipped suits, and work our way to the Major Arcana where we’ll study the archetypes and symbols that trace the Fool’s journey. We’ll spend time practicing in class the how-to’s of a tarot reading, discuss the ethics of working with tarot, arrive at definitions that are pragmatic and helpful in a reading, and devise ways to use the tarot for our personal spiritual journey. Students will be encouraged to intuit their own card meanings and style for reading, and they will conduct in-class readings for other students. By the end of the class, students should be comfortable reading tarot and continue to explore the deeper mysteries of divination.

Introduction to Astrology & Natal Chart Interpretation:
12-Week Class with Joseph ($400)

Joseph teaches a 12-week intensive class that covers the basics of modern Western astrology where you will learn the basics of the signs, houses and planets, how to read an ephemeris, and interpreting the basics of natal charts. No prior knowledge of astrology is required. Ideal for new students,  beginning level and level astrology students.  

$400/person (payable in full or in two $200 installments).
